The Dictionary definition for the word ‘transition” is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another or a change or shift from one state, subject, place, etc. to another.
For the last three years the Lord has had me in a process of shifting from a life dictated by pharaoh’s (worldly) economic system to living the zoe (God kind of) life that Jesus spoke of in John 1:4. My mind has been renewed and I no longer solely depend on my intellect. I now rely fully on the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10)
The earmark of the zoe (God kind of) life is FAITH. As you transition into this faith-based lifestyle, expect your faith muscle to be tested and put under pressure for it to grow.
In Genesis 22, the Lord tested Abraham’s faith by asking him to relinquish or sacrifice his covenant promise son. Remember that Abraham waited for at least 15 years before the word of the Lord concerning Isaac came to pass. By the time the Lord was testing Abraham, he was already enjoying the blessings associated with obeying the call on his life in Genesis 12 :1-3 and the covenant that he'd entered into with the Lord in Genesis 15: 4-7.
I recently went through the 'give me your Isaac' test exactly 6 days after I received this vision from the Holy Spirit during my quiet time. In the vision, I was in a well-lit football/soccer stadium. The focus was on the player (me) and I had an opportunity to make an important play. Everyone in the stadium was keenly watching because it was a do or die moment for the player. There was much tension and great anticipation. The player was talking to the coach who had an earpiece and white board where He’d written the strategy. The player was very aware of the gravity of the moment, the weight it carried. It was the last game to end the season. The final cut. There was a trophy on the table and a chest with huge gold coins as the reward. There were no teammates on the field. The focus was on the coach, the
goal keeper and the player.
I immediately knew that a moment was coming when I'd need to take an illogical risk. What I didn't expect was for this moment to come sooner rather than later. In summary, my test was whether I feared men more than the Lord. The Lord asked me to sacrifice the very promise He had allowed me to see and even divinely orchestrated for me to walk in. He gave me an illogical instruction that was delinquent to say the least and made me look irrational. I had to psychologically prepare to walk through fire like Meshack, Shadrack and Abednego.
Through the nervousness and gut wrenching anguish I consoled myself that at least Jesus would be with me through it. This is what strengthened my resolve to obey the most absurd instruction I've ever heard to date. As I was on the way to sacrifice my Isaac it never even crossed my mind that the Lord would provide a ram in the bush. But He did so, at the very last moment, if I may add.
There comes a transition point in every believer's journey of faith- where you have received the promise but the Lord places a demand on your obedience, your resilience and your trust in Him. This is a critical moment where you have to choose wisely because your actions will determine how you move forward in the Lord.
'Give me your Isaac' is a test of faith and of complete surrender. It’s the test of how dead you are to Him. God does great things and manifests His glory through surrendered vessels- those whose will and intellect don't compete with His.
I pray that you will pass this test. May you have the courage to lay down that promise which is so dear to you. May the Lord look at your actions and say of you that you truly fear Him, because you haven't withheld from Him even the promise (Genesis 22:12)
