In Luke 18, Jesus uses the parable of the persistent widow to highlight the power of persistence in prayer. Through this story, we learn how our words, combined with perseverance and fervency, can move mountains. The key to living a life marked by signs, and wonders is simply prayer. There is no substitute for it.
A prayerful believer is a powerful believer- one who understands their full kingdom authority and actively operates within it (Matthew 18:18) Prayer is the secret to power and a protocol of the Kingdom of God that unlocks a vast array of possibilities.
Prayer unlocks divine possibilities in the following ways:
1. You Take Dominion and Occupy Spaces
In Genesis 1:28, God created male and female in the spirit realm and blessed them and gave them dominion over everything on the earth. Genesis 2 illustrates how Adam actually dominated the earth. For the gates of a territory to open up, the Lord must give the territory in the spirit and this happens in the place of prayer.
2. You Partner with God and His Kingdom Agenda
God is looking for men and women He can partner with to fulfill His plans on earth. Ezekiel 22:30 tells us that God is seeking men who will stand in the gap and help bring His kingdom purposes to fruition. For every promise and prophetic word that comes from the Throne room of Heaven to come to pass on earth, our participation in prayer is required. Through travail and prayer, we help birth God’s will on earth (1 Timothy 1:18)
3. You Access the Miracle-Working Power of God
Ephesians 3:20 speaks of God's power working within us to produce 'exceedingly, abundantly above all' results. The more we pray, the more we access God’s glorious power. Prayer opens the door for God’s supernatural intervention (Mark 6:46, John 11:41-42)
4. You Tap into the Breaker Anointing
Prayer not only brings breakthrough, it carries a 'breaker' and 'turn around' anointing that breaks bondage and changes outcomes. In Acts 16, Paul and Silas prayed and praised at midnight, and God broke open their prison doors. Similarly, when the early Church prayed for Peter, God sent an angel to release him prison, otherwise he'd have been killed (Acts 12) Even Job saw his fortunes restored after praying for his friends (Job 42:10)
5. Your Faith and Strength Are Fortified
God cares about our faith and perseverance. In 2 Timothy 4:7, Paul talks about fighting the good fight, finishing the race and keeping the faith. When the enemy asked to sift Peter, Jesus prayed that his faith would not fail (Luke 22:31-32). Similarly, Jesus is constantly making intercession for the saints that our faith will be fortified so that we can finish well (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25, Hebrews 4:14-16)
6. You Gain Access to Divine Help
When we pray and cry out to God, He intervenes. Prayer invites the counsel of God, angelic assistance, and divine wisdom into our lives. Whether we need guidance, protection, or answers, the secret place of prayer is where we receive God’s help (1 Samuel 7:3, Hebrews 1:14, James 1:5-8).
Don't leave the secret place until you get authority.
A Challenge for You
This year, let your Let There Be Challenge be different. As you write out your decrees, seek first the kingdom agenda and God's counsel (Matthew 6:33, Proverbs 19:21, Isaiah 14:24-27) over your own needs and desires. Go before the Lord in the secret place, intentionally seeking His guidance. Pray and declare your decrees through with fervency and persistence, understanding that you are legislating in the spirit realm first for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
