Writing a blog post on forgiveness wasn't as easy as I thought. But this morning, I felt the stirring of the Holy Spirit to reassure someone whose mind and thoughts are being consumed by feelings of guilt, shame and remorse because of things done in former days.
Friend, you're looking at the landscape of your life and wondering how it could have gone so wrong. You probably knew better, even now as a person of faith, but how did you get so distracted and blind-sided? You ask yourself how could you? You wonder why you're still straying and the enemy's voice is like a loud mosquito- taunting you, reminding you of a past you already surrendered to Jesus. You're starting to believe the lie that there's no way God could have forgiven that type of sin.
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness (1 John 1:8-9 NLT)
Here's the good news for you: Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life] (2 Corinthians 5:17 AMP)
The Lord has forgiven you. Your sins are far removed from the east and the west (Psalm 103:12) The moment you surrendered your life to the lordship of King Jesus, He began a good work within you and He is faithful to bring it to completion until it is finally finished on the day when Christ returns (Philippians 1:6)
Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death (Romans 8:1-2 AMP)
You might never know how the tests and trials you went through during the lost and wandering years will be your testimony of triumph of how the Lord saved you. All the pain you went through will turn into purpose. God had mercy on you so Christ Jesus could use you as a prime example of His great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in Him and receive eternal life (1 Timothy 1:16)
The account of Jesus and the adulterous woman in John 8:1-8 is one of great compassion and a great key to freedom from the shame of our past.
When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” (John 8:9-11)
Dear friend, Jesus doesn't condemn you. Your sins are forgiven. Go and sin no more.
