You Control It

"But when you decide to break free, you will shake his yoke from your neck" (Genesis 27:40b, NLT)

Dear Friend,

Can you imagine Jesus dying for you to have access to an abundant life, but you still live in doubt, poverty, oppression, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and (insert your struggle here)? Unfortunately, for many, we don't have to use our imagination because we live in that reality. Yet, the good news is that you don't have to stay there.

One day, I was lamenting (a cute word for complaining) to God about something I didn't have. I was literally going in about the issue and how I felt. But, you know how God does; He'll let you get it all out and then hit you with some of those lines He gave Job.

Here are a few ways God read Job:

"Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!" Job 38:4-5

"Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?" Job 38:12-13

"Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness? Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this." Job 38:16-18

Thankfully, God didn’t read me for filth like He did Job, but what He said to me was similar. He said, “You don’t have what you want because you don’t want it.” Naturally, this caught me off guard because I thought that if I was crying, spitting, and farting, that would indicate that I wanted what I was crying, spitting, and farting about. But, just like the man at the pool of Bethesda, who Jesus asks, “Do you want to get well?” that wasn’t true.

Take a look at the opening scripture from Genesis again. The scripture indicates that there is a decision that we have to make to reach a desired end. The scripture doesn’t say that when God decides it’s time for you to be free, He will take the yoke from your neck. Instead, it says when you decide it’s time, you will do the corresponding action to remove the yoke.

Below is an image of a yoke

Essentially, God already decided it was time for you to be free before the foundations of the world, which was why the lamb was slain.

But have you decided?

Have you decided you’re tired of living a life beneath you?

Have you decided it was time for you to step into the destiny God ordained for you?

It might not be God holding you up, but you’re holding yourself hostage. Bondage is comfortable, no matter what our mouths say. Bondage doesn’t require anything of us other than that we pledge loyalty and give it our lives. That’s a high price to pay to stay in a place that wasn’t meant for you.

I pray that you will decide to break free and actively take the yoke from your neck because it doesn’t belong there.

Choose the abundant life. You control your progression.
