Willpower Isn't Enough; You Need God's Strength To Walk In Purpose

For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13 (AMP).

I hit a wall in mid-April- emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. It wasn’t for lack of trying; it was because I relied on myself instead of letting God carry me. Here’s what He showed me about true obedience and purpose: to walk in purpose, we need God.

When Life Changes, Our Source Stays the Same

Sometimes, life presents unexpected course corrections. In mid-April, I felt the weight of a shift; a moment of realignment when God reminded me that I could not do anything of purpose on my own. Willpower isn't enough. My talents, and resources were insufficient. My good intentions weren’t enough. I needed God. And sometimes, if we’re honest, we get so comfortable operating in our own abilities that we forget how much we truly need Him. But I’m grateful for God’s forgiveness, correction, grace, and mercy.

You Can Struggle, or You Can Surrender

Let’s be clear: you can do your own thing if you choose.

You can keep striving, stressing, and trying to figure it out in your own strength, like I did.

For a good three or four days, I was struggling. Overthinking. Complicating the assignment God had given me. Until I finally came to myself: “God, You gave me this assignment. You shifted this focus. I need You to help me see it through.”

A moment of surrender. And suddenly, it came together beautifully. I still had to do the work, but it wasn’t in my strength anymore. No more toiling. No more unnecessary stress. Surrender. I returned to the Source.

Warning and Reminder

The moment we start thinking we can do it on our own, we get off track. God is at work in us, strengthening us, energizing us, and creating in us the longing and ability to fulfill our purpose.

Be Encouraged

As I encourage myself, I want to encourage you: don’t forget about God. It is Him working in us. His strength, wisdom, and leading will bring what He started in us to completion.

Stay connected. Stay surrendered. And watch how beautifully God brings it all together.
