Hey sis,
Today’s encouragement comes to you from a conversation I recently had with my teenage daughter. She came into my room to talk, as she frequently does, but I was reading my Bible. I asked if she’d like to join me to study. She agreed and chose to explore the Parable of the Sower in Matthew 13:1-23. Her selection process wasn’t anything super spiritual; she literally opened the Bible and that’s what it landed on, so we dove right in.
The Parable of the Sower is about God planting seeds (a.k.a His Word) in us. This can be done through nature (Psalm 19:1-4), through scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17) or through
teachers/prophets of the Bible (1 Cor 12:28) - just to name a few. There are also times that He audibly speaks to us and those stories can be found in the Bible.
However He chooses to speak to you, Kingdom Living dictates that our heart is in the right condition to receive His Word and thus reap a harvest from it.
According to Matthew 13:23, when the seed falls on good soil, we will not only receive it, but we will truly hear/understand it, and get a harvest of whatever has been planted thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or hundredfold. That’s such good news (Luke 4:43) because we're all in need of a harvest. What will your harvest be? Breakthrough? Healing? Peace?
I’m not going to hold you. I want you to get out there and be great for God. But please keep in mind that there are some things that can get you caught up. According to verses 18-22, that happens if the seed falls on the sidewalk, rocky soil or thorny soil.
● The Sidewalk: This is when God speaks and we don’t understand so the enemy
snatches it away
● Rocky Soil: When God speaks, we believe it and receive it, but we don’t have deep
enough roots in Him so it doesn’t last.
● Thorny Soil: We hear God speaking but the worries of life suffocate the seed that was
planted.
I encourage you to do a heart check today and ask yourself if your heart is good soil?
My daughter’s “good soil” came in the form of her yes. God only needed her to be willing when I invited her to Bible study. She had no idea where to start and was only vaguely familiar with this parable from Sunday School. But her “yes” allowed His Word to be planted in her heart. God took her to exactly the right place and He met her where she was. I know she’ll reap a harvest because the Bible told me so. And since God doesn’t have favorites (Romans 2:11), I know He'll do the same for you!
