Setting Your Atmosphere in Order

(Before you decree/Post 5)

When God began to create in Genesis, we see that He spoke directly into chaos: “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep” (Genesis 1:2). I bring this up because if you find yourself standing in the midst of chaos, then you are positioned in the perfect atmosphere to shift in authority. Another detail we notice in Genesis 1 is that something precedes His directive to “Let there be light.” Scripture says, “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” This matters because it reveals that before creation can take place, there must first be alignment in the atmosphere.

I highlight these two truths because many believers attempt to decree into disorder without first inviting the Spirit to hover, which is why I strongly encourage decreeing under the direction of the Holy Spirit. We cannot afford to speak prematurely and hope that our words will repair what only the presence of God can prepare. If the Genesis pattern teaches us anything, it’s that movement precedes manifestation.

Furthermore, we do not see God rushing to speak. Instead, we see Him hovering, surveying, and allowing His presence to establish peace within the chaos before calling anything forth.

To be clear, the Spirit’s hovering was not inactivity but can be understood as a form of incubation. So, though the waters remained formless, they were becoming ready to respond under His movement. Interestingly, creation begins the same way; with divine movement and sacred stillness existing at once.

So before you decree anything over your life, you must discern the state of your atmosphere. Is the Spirit hovering, or are you forcing? Is there peace, or are you trying to speak over noise?

Remember, order always precedes creation.

The Weight of Words in the Wrong Atmosphere

By now you know that words are powerful, but even powerful words can fall flat in a resistant atmosphere. For instance, Jesus understood this when He cleared the room before raising Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5:40). We know that He dismissed those who carried unbelief because He knew faith and unbelief cannot share the same space.

To be clear, the atmosphere determines what words can take root, which is why Scripture continually connects sound with surroundings. Whether it’s Elijah hearing God’s voice only after the wind and fire ceased (1 Kings 19), or Ezekiel prophesying to dry bones only after being positioned by the Spirit (Ezekiel 37:1–4), the pattern remains: if you want to see results, you must first create resonance.

(And I am learning in real time that words flourish in peace, not pressure.)

How to Set Your Atmosphere

  1. Invite the Holy Spirit to hover. Sit in silence and worship before you speak. Ask Him to brood over your thoughts, emotions, and environment because you cannot create what Heaven has not breathed on.

  2. Establish peace. You cannot legislate from anxiety. Authority flows from rest, and we know this because Jesus slept through storms because He understood that peace precedes power.

  3. Remove unbelief. Before speaking, dismiss anything or anyone contradicting your faith. Sometimes “closing the door” means refusing the voices that cancel your decree before it’s released.

  4. Align your heart and motives. Ask yourself: Why am I decreeing this? Kingdom decrees are not about control but cooperation with Heaven.

  5. Speak from revelation and not reaction. God didn’t speak until His Spirit had moved, so wait until the Word stirs within you before declaring it outwardly. Reactionary speech is emotional, but revelatory speech is creative.

Bonus: The Law of Alignment

The Law of Alignment is the spiritual principle that creation only responds to what is in agreement with Heaven. In Scripture, God never speaks into disorder until the Spirit has hovered, signaling that the atmosphere, the moment, and the conditions are in harmony with His will. Alignment, therefore, is the state in which the heart, the environment, and the intention of the speaker match the order of God. Ultimately, it is alignment and not emotion that gives your words legal weight in the spirit realm.

This matters for the Let There Be Challenge because decrees are not effective simply because they are spoken; they are effective because they are spoken from alignment. Essentially, when your posture matches Heaven’s posture, then your decrees carry authority.

So alignment is what ensures that what you decree is not resisted but received.
