Dear Friend,
Happy Tuesday! I recently released a podcast talking about the main reason why people struggle to obey God. What I learned preparing for the segment is that it's not that we don't want to be obedient, but sometimes our goals stand in the way.
There's nothing worse than you creating a 5-year plan for your life and God stepping in to challenge it. This example happens more often than not, and when we are inflexible, we threaten our destiny.
I used to live by a 5-year plan, and my goals looked terrific; however, my plans did not always align with God's will. As a result, when He would try to come and change the plan, I would fight Him tooth and nail. Seriously, I wasn't going for any of His changes, and then I saw my life begin to stagnate.
There's nothing worse than feeling stagnation, I know, because it's one of the things that keeps me moving. If stagnate water invites insects and other harmful bacteria, what do you think a stagnate life will do to you?
This is why flexibility in your life is so important. I know you don't want to go the long route. I know you will see others reach the destination before you, but what's the alternative?
Are you brave enough to submit your plans to God and allow Him to do whatever He wants? Do you have the courage to face the unknown? What about giving up the life you had in mind?
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not fully living the life I had in mind, but there are present elements of that life. Is it frustrating? Of course, but what's the alternative?
Now I could resist God and try to stand my ground, but have you ever tried to slap box with Him? If so, did you win? I guess you didn't, and you likely walked away with some invisible wound that you're still nursing.
This is to say that the creation cannot resist the creator. The child cannot resist the parent. He's stronger. He's wiser. He's omnipresent. He's simultaneously in your past, present, and future. He's the alpha and omega. He's your Father, and He loves you even in His breaking of your will.
So I guess this post was to remind you that the thing that could be standing in your way of obeying God is your plans, so you must adjust them accordingly.
